Down By The Riverside Festival isn’t just the two live music stages, real ale, cocktails, world food and awesome creative workshops for everyone (phew!): we’ve got theatrical fun for all ages too! With just five weeks to go, it’s time to meet our fabulous theatre acts below, and don’t forget to engage with your favourites on Twitter. Use the hashtag #DBTRfest to feature on our festival wall too!
We’re delighted to welcome back to Down By The Riverside Festival a definite favourite from last year, the awesome TurnAround Dance Theatre with a very special (and rather GIANT) adaptation of their story of the Phoenix and the Fox. We can’t wait to see what this exceptionally talented group have to offer on the big day!
Next up is the highly acclaimed Ribcaged Productions from picturesque Clitheroe. We were introduced to this spectacularly creative company by our media partners, Ribble FM, and we’re very excited to see what they bring to #DBTRfest 2018. With their focus on bringing creativity and the arts to communities across Lancashire, we think we’re the perfect match!
If you’ve seen our short film, “The Legend of The Giants”, you’ll already have met the formidable dragon that the fantastic Livestock Productions are bringing to the festival. Thankfully, it’s not all fire and brimstone, as their flower seller will also be making her way around the site, spreading joy and the beauty of nature with every step.
We’re also welcoming back to the festival the awesome Gary “Gacko” Bridgens the showman. Gacko was a huge hit last year with festival goers of all ages, and we can’t wait to see what energy he brings to the big event this year.
If you’re a Dolphinholme local, you’ll definitely be looking forward to this one… The Woolly Hat Poet is returning in 2018! Benjamin Guilfoyle is certainly a local favourite with a poem for everyone – we know we’re going to see a big crowd for his performance!
Another favourite from 2017 will be returning to captivate festival goers all over the site this year; Flow Arts’ “Magic Ball Man”. He’ll blow you away with his spectacular gravity juggling and illusions – what a fantastic addition to Down By The Riverside Festival!
Sure to resonate with our younger festival goers (and their parents too!) is a newcomer to #DBTRfest, Isaac Hughes-Dennis. Armed with a ukulele and a sharp wit, this creative young musician is already making waves on the festival scene and we’re delighted to have him with us on June 2nd
Last (but certainly not least!) is another Lancaster local: Ines G Labarta. Ines is a writer and artist; born in Madrid, she writes in both Spanish and English and was a key part of Lancaster’s LitFest this year. Having published a trio of gothic young adult novels, her reading in the storytelling amphitheatre at dusk will be both chilling and inspiring for teens and adults alike.
